FITNESS Special Session on conformal metasurfaces

Thursday, April 23, from 15:50 – 17:30

FITNESS Consortium will be present at EuCAP 2026 Conference with a Special Session titled « Novel Designs and applications of conformal metasurfaces and antennas ». This Session has been organized by Professor Zvonimir Sipus from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, and will include two presentations by the consortium members.

The EuCAP 2026 conference will take place in Dublin, from April 19 to 24. More than 1400 participants are expected in the field of antennas, propagation, electromagnetics and measurements.

Abstract :

Novel realizations of conformal metasurfaces and antennas are being developed to overcome limitations of traditional designs, particularly in scenarios requiring flexible or curved surfaces. These advancements involve creating electromagnetic structures that can be shaped to conform to various non-planar geometries, leading to enhanced performance and new applications. Due to the development of computational power, modeling of conformal structures on electromagnetic simulators has become feasible, although several challenges still remain. The assessment of installed performance of electromagnetic structures mounted onto curved surfaces have gained more attention recently, since the characterization of antennas integrated into aerospace vehicles or into sensor systems is a crucial issue.

Two Papers are presented by FITNESS consortium :

  1. Challenges in realization of curved metasurfaces – we present all problems we faced in development of curved metasurfaces, from design to realization.
  2. Feeding network for sparse-array metasurface – this paper discusses the idea of sparse and accordingly the feeding network.
